Dear Johnson Parents and Guardians,
As you know, the current bell schedule was created to pivot to a hybrid return-to-school plan. Students were divided into Cohort A and B in order to make class sizes small enough to accommodate social distancing in the classroom. To make this hybrid schedule work, we decreased instructional minutes and shortened the school day.
On November 16th, Orange County was moved to the purple tier, and our middle schools were not allowed to open for in-person instruction as planned. For the past four weeks, the hybrid schedule has been used in a 100% virtual setting, which is not ideal because of the decreased instructional minutes.
Since the school board has decided to keep our schools virtual through February16, we are pivoting to a new virtual bell schedule starting when we return from winter break on January 4th. This new bell schedule is in the best interest of our students because it will increase instructional time and lengthen the school day. This new schedule will make it easier to transition for when we return back to in-person instruction.
Thank you for being flexible and understanding. As the year progresses, we will continue to keep you updated.
